Just two months after PERI announced the first 3D printed building in Germany, the company has revealed its latest innovative project: a 3D printed apartment building.

Construction is under way on the three-story building using COBOD’s BOD2 3D construction printer to build the walls on-site. PERI is COBOD’s German distribution partner. Henrik Lund-Nielsen, Founder and General Manager of COBOD, said he is pleased to see the work of COBOD’s printers come to fruition.

“This new German project is really a great milestone as the commercial nature of the building proves the competitiveness of the 3D construction printing technology for three floors buildings and apartment buildings. This, again, opens entirely new markets for our printers,” Lund-Nielsen said.

Thomas Imbacher, Innovation and Marketing Director at PERI GmbH, said that by printing the first apartment building on-site, the company demonstrates that the technology can also be used for large scale dwellings. This is another step toward making 3D construction printing mainstream.

The BOD2 printer has a modular build and can extend in any direction with modules of 2 and 5 meters. At its maximum speed of 100 cm/sec, the printer can cast 10 tons of concrete per hour with just two operators.

The apartment building will measure 380 square meters.

Once construction of the apartment building is completed, owner Michael Rupp Bauunternehmung GmbH will rent out the building’s five units.
